What to do about the Afghan war?

Well, it's really about what not to do, at least according to our
readers.
And based on a poll in the News section of our Web site, readers do
not want to keep going as it has been.
With nearly 200 responses, 42 percent want to "get out now," and 56
percent favor sending in "more troops to get the job done."
So it appears President Obama's policy will go with the majority.
However, only 3 people clicked "Keep going as we have done."
A decision had to be made, and the status quo was getting tiresome.
Let's hope it's the right decision.

Steve, if President Obama sends more troops, which it looks like he is going to do, there is no doubt this will be the biggest mistake of his Presidency.

I went to a presentation by Juan Cole, an expert scholar on that part of the world. Americans don't realize what a deeply divided country Afghanistan is. There is no loyalty to the central government, therefore there is no chance of a national army.

Therefore the strategy of standing up the Afghan army so that they can take care of their own defense is a failed policy.

We can better use the money at home to pay for domestic priorities like health care.
